Pesenti’s Two Goals Propels Men’s Soccer to Victory Over Hartford

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team won its first game of the season on Sunday afternoon, beating the University of Hartford 4-0. Stefano Pesenti scored twice in two minutes to give the Warriors an early lead in the first. Juri Schlingmann and Johan Feilscher also had goals for Merrimack in the victory.

  • Right out of the gate the Warriors were on the Hawks. Pesenti launched a shot towards the net, scoring his first goal of the season in the seventh minute. Feilscher assisted on the goal. Two minutes later Pesenti found the back of the net for the second time in two minutes, giving Merrimack a two goal advantage. Michael Koralishn had the helper on this goal. The Warriors continued to put pressure on the Hartford. Carlo Romei and Liam Ziegler both had shots that were saved by the Hawks goalkeeper. In the 23rd minute, Schlingmann scored his first goal of the season, which was unassisted, giving Merrimack a three-goal lead. Warrior goalkeeper Alvaro Rodriguez had a save in the 42nd minute to insure the home team was up three heading into halftime.  
  • The Warriors kept the pressure on in the second half. In the span of three minutes Merrimack had four shots on goal, none of which could get past the goalkeeper. Alessandro Negri ripped a shot that was saved by the Hartford goalkeeper in the 52nd minute. Feilscher scored to giving the Warriors a four-goal lead. Merrimack would ride the lead until the final buzzer sounded, giving them their first win of the season.

  • The Warriors help the Hawks to six shots and just one on goal.
  • Feilscher led the team with five shots on the afternoon. 

Up Next

Merrimack heads down to Rhode Island to take on former Northeast Conference (NEC) member Bryant University on Wednesday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
