Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Defeats New Hampshire, 1-0

NORTH ANDOVER MASS- The Merrimack College women's soccer team came away winners tonight in the tough 1-0 victory over the University of New Hampshire,  Thursday night at Martone-Mejail Field.


The Basics

  • It took the Warriors just under 13 minutes for #23 Molly Murnane, to find the net on assists from Ella Cormier and Julia Ostermann. Murnane found herself alone past the defense and rounded the challenging goalkeeper to score ultimately the game-winning goal for the Warriors. 

  • After the goal, both UNH and Merrimack traded multiple scoring opportunities, but neither was able to add a second goal to the score line. 

  • A bit of a grinder at times, Merrimack and UNH racked up 19 fouls combined we need some tense moments on the pitch, 3 yellow cards were also handed out by the referee, 1 to Merrimack, 2 to New Hampshire

  • Goalkeeper Lily Morgan captured her first shutout of her collegiate career, stopping three shots and even recording a shot on goal from a free kick.

  • Morgan's shutout can also be attributed to the Merrimack defense, as they did not allow UNH to play how they wanted in the final third, and containing shots to outside the eighteen yard box, with UNH unable to hit the target on their attempts.

Top Performers // Notes

  • Morgan records her first clean sheet with 3 saves.
  • The goal was Murnane's second of the season, and she tied for most shots on goal with 2. 
  • Cormier and Ostermann also notched both their first assists this season.

Up Next:

The Warriors stay at home to take on the Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
