Men's Basketball Drops Stonehill, 59-47

EASTON, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team won its second Northeast Conference game in a row on Saturday afternoon against Stonehill College, 59-47. Jordan Minor had a game-high 18 points and 14 rebounds. He also had two steals. Jordan Derkack started and added 11 points, as well as six rebounds. Devon Savage had nine points, five rebounds, and three steals in the victory.

Rapid Recap
  • Four minutes into the game both teams had seven points to their credit. The Skyhawks then went on a 11-point run to go up by 11. Savage then knocked down a three to cut it down to eight. Minor then added two dunks to slice the lead in half to four. After a Stonehill bucket, Nick Filchner hit his first three of the afternoon to put Merrimack down three. With eight minutes to play Minor hit a shot to make the Skyhawk lead one. Both teams battled for the rest of the first half, going back and forth, not letting the lead get over four or under one. The Warriors went into halftime down just one.  
  • After a Stonehill three to open the second half, Merrimack shot out of a cannon going on a 20-point run to flip the game and go up by 16 points. Both Minor and Derkack had six points during the run. The Skyhawks battled back cut the lead in half with six minutes to play in the game. Merrimack added five. Javon Bennett knocked down a three to swell the lead up to 13 points. Stonehill added another five points to once again cut it down to eight. Savage then found the bottom of the net with a three to make it 11. The Warriors finished the job in the final minutes, winning the game by 12.
Notes and Numbers
  • Minor had a season-high 14 rebounds.
  • Derkack and Bennett combined for 11 of the Warriors 13 assists.
  • Merrimack forced 18 turnovers and scored 18 points off the turnovers.
