Men's Basketball Edged By Wagner, 62-57

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team suffered its first loss in three games on Monday night against Wagner, 62-57. Jordan Minor was the leading scorer with 15 points, the senior forward also had nine rebounds. Javon Bennett, Ziggy Reid, and Jordan Derkack all had 11 points in the defeat.

Rapid Recap
  • The first half opened with a Mykel Derring three that found the bottom of the net. The Seahawks then added seven points to go up four. Five minutes into the first half, Merrimack was down five. Reid hit a jumper to cut it to three. Two free throws by Derkack cut it down to one. With just over six and a half minutes left to play before halftime, Minor scored on a layup to give the Warriors their second lead of the half. Derkack added a layup to put Merrimack up three. Wagner then hit a three to tie the game at 25. After a late first half run, the Seahawks headed into halftime up five.
  • Derring and Minor combined for a five-point run to open the second half to tie the game at 33. Both teams went back and forth, sharing the lead multiple times each. With 10 minutes to play the Warriors rattled off five straight to go up two possessions. Wagner came back to tie the game at 54 with just over three and a half to play. With under a minute to play the Seahawks were up four. Bennett hit a jumper with 30 seconds left in the game to make the lead one possession. Good free throw shooting by Wagner at the end of the game gave them a five-point win.
