Men's Hockey's Third Period Explosion Leads Them to Weekend Sweep

North Andover, M.A.—The Merrimack Warriors Men's hockey team scored four times in the third period as they swept the weekend with a 5-2 win over the St. Lawrence Saints on Sunday afternoon at Lawler Arena.

The Basics
Merrimack (2-2-0, 0-0-0): 5, St. Lawrence (1-3-0, 0-0-0): 2

A game that took a bit of slow start, penalties and stoppages marred play that lead to a scoreless opening 20 minutes.

St. Lawrence would score the game's first goal at 8:45 of the second period.

Merrimack would open their scoring account in the game as Devlin O'Brien scored his first goal of his Warriors career on a two on one pass from Matt Copponi with just over two and half minutes to play in the second period.

The Warriors would not wait around in the third as early pressure from Mark Hillier and Mac Welsher forced a rebound that fell to Christian Felton who scored to put Merrimack in the lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

More pressure in the offensive goal would lead to another goal as Trevor Griebel would pot his first goal of the year.

Michael Citara would score his first Warriors goal to reach the lead to three with less than 10 minutes to go.

St. Lawrence would score a consolation goal late on, but Chase Stevenson would put the game on ice as scored his third goal in two games with the empty netter.
