Merrimack College Athletics Announces Contract Extension for Director of Athletics

North Andover, MA - Merrimack College announces it has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with Director of Athletics Jeremy Gibson. Additionally, Gibson will now hold the title of Vice President and Director of Athletics.

Currently in his 11th year leading the College's athletic program, Gibson's efforts have been central to the growth of Merrimack's athletic program, including its ascension to the NCAA Division I level and the recent announcement that Merrimack will join the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

"Jeremy has played a pivotal role in elevating Merrimack Athletics to levels our college community could only dream of just a few years ago," said Merrimack College President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D. "I look forward to continuing to work with him to further enhance the Merrimack brand at the national level and support our more than 700 student-athletes, as well as our coaches and athletics staff, to greater success."

Merrimack's teams have enjoyed an unprecedented level of success in recent years, earning multiple conference championships in men's basketball, men's soccer and women's soccer, as well as a NCAA tournament berth for men's ice hockey this past March. During Gibson's tenure, significant facility investments – including the construction of Duane Stadium in 2017, the Lawler basketball court in 2021 and the transformational renovation of Lawler Arena this summer–- have generated all-time attendance levels and exceptional fan experiences.

"I am deeply appreciative of President Hopey, Executive Vice President Jeffrey Doggett and the Board of Trustees for their passionate support of our athletics program and for their faith in me to lead it," said Gibson, "I am so fortunate to be able to work every day with our amazing student-athletes and the most talented and dedicated coaches and administrators in the country."

Merrimack Athletics sponsors 28 varsity teams with over 750 varsity athletes, as well as a robust club sports program with an additional 500 athletes across 24 teams.
