Providence, R.I.—The Merrimack Warriors Men's Hockey team scored three times in the first period and scored in every frame as they breezed to a 5-1 win to open their second half of the season against the Brown University Bears on Friday night.
The Basics
Merrimack (7-9-1, 2-6-1): 5, BROWN (4-8-1, 2-5-0): 1
Merrimack scored the opening goal exactly three minutes into the game as
Ethan Bono knocked in a backhand shot on a rebound shot from the point.
The Warriors would score again, this time on the powerplay as
Alex Jefferies would be left wide open and score from faceoff dot, doubling the lead,
Ty Daneault would make it 3-0 with a one timer of his own late in the first.
Merrimack would keep on rolling in the second as
Trevor Griebel would score on a wraparound shot just past the 12 minute mark of the period.
Brown would break the shutout with three minutes to play in the third period, but
Frank Djurasevic would re establish the four goal lead on a slick pass by
Matt Copponi to finish out the win.
