Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Boston University

BOSTON, MASS. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team opened its season at Boston University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors would lose the non-conference matchup 17-7. Natalie Calkins and Olivia Valdes both had two goals for Merrimack in the loss.

How It Happened
  • Mollie Morrison launched the first shot on goal for Merrimack that was saved by the Terrier goalie. Calkins scored the first goal for Merrimack at the eight and a half minute mark of the first. Valdes had the assist on the goal. Less than a minute later Allison Lamphere scored her first goal of the season to give the Warriors an early two-goal lead. Boston University added two goals before the end of the first. The Terriers opened the second quarter by scoring four straight goals to go up by four. Sophie Scearbo scored on a free position shot for Merrimack to cut the deficit to three. A minute later, Georgia Parker found the back of the net to slice the lead to two. The Terriers would score one more time before halftime and would head into the second half up three.
  • The Terriers opened the second half with two goals out of the gate. Valdes would score an unassisted goal with nine and a half minutes to play in the third quarter. Boston University would score four more times, going up by seven. Valdes would score again to put Merrimack down by six. The Terriers would score with 19 seconds left in the third to go up 14-6. Calkins would score the lone Warrior goal in the fourth quarter.
