Men’s Lacrosse Drops Thriller to Dartmouth

The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team traded blows with Dartmouth all afternoon Saturday at Duane Stadium, but the clock ran out on the Warriors, as the Big Green escaped with an 11-10 win.

Rapid Recap
● The Warriors would score the first two goals in under a minute as senior Jack Rooney would score the first and junior Wyatt Carr would score the second. Dartmouth would answer back with a score of their own at the 8:54 mark of the 1st. Then, freshman Kasey Mongillo would help push the Warrior's lead to 3-1. Dathmouth would then score another goal of their own to keep the game close. Merrimack would get one more score as sophomore Brian Russell would his first of the afternoon as they closed out the first quarter.

● The Big Green would get the second quarter started as they scored to start the quarter at the 9:19 mark of the game. Merrimack would soon respond as junior Andrew Williams would put one in the net to push the lead up to 5-3. Dartmouth would then go on a 3-0 run
to take the lead. This streak would be broken as graduate student Drew Hailey would get a goal of his own to tie up the game 6-6 before the half.

● The third quarter got underway with a goal made by Russell late in the game at the 5:48 mark. The Big Green would then answer back with a goal of their own. With just 1:28 left in the third quarter, it was Russell who would put the ball in the net to help the Warriors claim the lead by a score of 8-7 at the end of the quarter.

●The Warriors would get the last period started with a goal by graduate student Tommy Rooney as he would extend the lead by two points. Dartmouth would then go on another 3-0 run to claim the lead late in the quarter. This streak was broken by Russell to tie the game 10-10. The Big Green would get the last goal to go at the 3:02 mark that would seal the victory for Dartmouth 11-10.

Notes and Numbers:
Brian Russell had the lone hat trick with four goals, while Tommy Rooney, Kasey Mongillo, Jack Rooney, Drew Hailey, Andrew Williams, and Wyatt Carr also scored for the Warriors.
Trace Hogan lead the team with two assists.
Allyn French won nine faceoffs of the afternoon.
Henry Vogt made eight saves in the loss.
