Denver, CO. – Led by strong performances by
Jack Rooney and
Kasey Mongillo the Merrimack College men's lacrosse team came up just shy in a comeback attempt at the University of Denver in a 13-9 defeat Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

● Denver opened up the game with a score with 10:50 to go in the first quarter. The Warriors would strike back, as
Jack Rooney would score his first goal of the evening on an assist by
Brian Russell. The Pioneers would answer again, this time with two goals of their own to go up 3-1. The Warriors would again strike as Rooney found the net for his second consecutive goal of the afternoon on an assist by
Trace Hogan. Denver would score again to make the score 4-2 in the first 15 minutes of the game. The second quarter opened up with an early hat trick by Rooney as he scores in the first 30 seconds of the game with another Hogan assist. The Pioneers would get their own goal to make the score 5-3. The Warriors would not be outdone, as Russell gets his first goal of the afternoon to go with 8:36 left in the 2nd. Denver would then get back-to-back goals to push their lead up by three. A goal by Mongillo with 46 seconds left in the second would cut the deficit to just two before the half.
● The third quarter would get started with back-to-back goals by the Pioneers to push their lead up by four. This streak would be broken, as Mongillo would get his second goal of the afternoon with 6:52 left on the clock in the third. The Pioneers would then go a three score run as they extended their lead 12-6. The fourth quarter opened up with another goal to give them a seven point lead on the Warriors. Merrimack would try to fight back as Russell would get his second goal of the afternoon. Then, seven seconds later,
Allyn French would find the net with 9:04 left in the game to close the gap to five. Rooney would not be the only one to get a hat trick that day, as Mongillo would find the net for his third goal and the final one of the afternoon as the Warriors would run out of time and fall 13-9.

Henry Vogt would have 22 saves on the afternoon, the most in a game at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium this season.
