Baseball Defeated by Canisius

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Merrimack College baseball team fell in game two of its South Carolina trip on Saturday night to Canisius College. Hayden Bond had two hits and a RBI for the Warriors. Alex Haba also had a hit and RBI in the loss. Casey Hegan went four and a third, striking out six.

  • Scott Elliott would open the game with a single to right. He would reach third, but get stuck in scoring position. Hegan got the Griffins to go down in order in the first. After the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, Bond would single up the middle, scoring the runner from second. The Warriors led 1-0. Canisius would add three runs in the third to take a two-run lead. Braydon Dolbashian would draw a one out walk in the top of the fourth. Bond would then single once again to the left side putting two runners on. Both player would advance a base on a wild pitch. Christian Gemelli would rip a sac fly to center, scoring Dolbashian.
  • Elliott would walk once again to lead off the inning. He would reach second, but could not find home. The Griffins would add three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth to go up four. Canisius would then add five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up nine. Haba would hit into a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh, scoring a run for Merrimack. The Warriors would add one more in the ninth, but the comeback was not enough on Saturday.
