Baseball Stumbles in Sunday Matchup Against Bucknell

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Merrimack College baseball team dropped its final game of its South Carolina trip on Sunday morning against Bucknell University. Michael Golankiewicz had two hits for the Warriors, including a solo home run in the second inning. Christian Gemelli and Chris Goode also had two hits from Merrimack in the loss.

  • Scott Elliott led off the first inning the same way he did last game with a single to right. The senior outfielder then stole second. He was left in scoring position. Warrior starter Zach Broderick got the Bison to go down in order during the bottom of the first. Golankiewicz led off the top of the second with his first home run of the season, giving Merrimack a 1-0 lead. Bucknell responded by getting a run of their own, trying the game at one. The Bison would score three runs in the bottom of the third to take a three-run advantage. The Bison would add one more run in the bottom of the fourth to go up four. In the fifth, Gemelli would single with one out. Goode would follow up the single with one of his own, putting two runners on. The next two batters failed to get on, keep the score at 5-1.
  • Hayden Bond would open the sixth with a single. Golankiewicz would then walk with two outs in the inning. Braydon Dolbashian would then single up the middle, scoring Bond from second. Gemelli would then single home Golankiewicz to cut the lead down to two runs. Bucknell responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go back up four. The Bison added five runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal to deal.
