Hamden, CT—The Merrimack Men's Lacrosse team got back in the win column as they defeated the Quinnipiac Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
In the first quarter, the Warriors and Wildcats would trade goals with
Drew Hailey's late tally a man up gave the Warriors the lead after the first 15 minutes of action.
Business picked up in the second, as after Quinnipiac tied the score
Kasey Mongillo fired the Warriors back in front with two goals in a row before
Tommy Rooney scored to give the Warriors their biggest lead up to this point as they were ahead 6-3. The Wildcats would cut the lead back to one before
Andrew Williams and
Brian Russell re-established the three goal advantage at the halftime break.
In the third, both teams scored early, but the Warriors would score two more to extend the lead out to five, and would lead by four with 15 minutes to play.
In the fourth, the Warriors put their foot on the gas and never looked back as they scored five unanswered goals to blow the game open highlighted by
Kasey Mongillo and
Brian Russell completing their hat tricks in the process. Qunnipiac would add one more consolation marker just before the final minute, but the Warriors would finish the win out from there.
