Auburn, AL- The Merrimack Women's Softball team split their two games on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Brown Bears in the first game before falling to the Auburn Tigers in the second.
GAME 1: Brown took the early lead in the first inning but the Warriors would strike back in a big way in the bottom half of the inning as
Sam Russalesi and
Madison Cerpa would set the table with a hit and a walk and Madison Fornwalt would drive them in with a three run home run, her first of the season.
Brown would cut the lead back to one with a home run in the second inning but the Warriors would re extend their lead a few innings later as
Hannah Scarano scored two more runs on a two RBI single.
In the fifth, Brown would score two more runs to cut the lead back to one, and in the sixth the Warriors would turn the ball over to
Madie Fornwalt who would lock down the five out save to preserve the Warriors first win of the 2023 campaign.
Notes and Numbers
Madie Fornwalt had two hits, a double and a three run home run and captured the save with a 1.2 inning effort on the mound.
Ellen Hubbard,
Sam Russalesi,
Madison Cerpa,
Hannah Scarano, and
Caity Lemay all had one hit each.
Bry Michitson captured her first win of the season, pitching 5.1 innings.
GAME 2:
Auburn scored three runs in the first two innings, and added a fourth run in the fourth inning.
The Warriors best chance to get on the board happened in the fifth inning when they had runners on the corners with two outs but they were left stranded in the end.
Auburn would add three more runs in the fifth to finish out the scoring in the evening.

Madison Cerpa singled twice in the loss and
Sofia Palyan had a hit as well.
