Dover, DE-- The Merrimack College Warriors Baseball team won their first game of the season in the first of three series against Delaware State University Hornets
on Friday afternoon.
Game 1:
Merrimack: 19, Delaware State: 6
The Warriors jumped out to the lead in the first inning with runs by
Christian Gemelli,
Matthew Chatelle, and
Frankie Ferrentino.
Braydon Dolbashian hit his first home run of the season in the second inning to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead. The Hornets scored their first runs of the game in the fourth inning with two runs. Heading into the fifth inning,
Michael Golankiewicz scored a run along with Chatelle to bring the Warriors up 6-2. Scanlon singled to right field to score a run for the Warriors with Chatelle scoring on a wild pitch to bring the lead up to 8-2. The fifth inning was all Merrimack as both
Scott Elliott and
Ben Nelson scored a run from a walk to bring the lead 10-2. Chatelle hit his first home run of the season in the sixth inning along with Elliott hitting his first home run in the eight inning to bring the lead up to 15-2. The Hornets scored four runs in the eighth inning. Merrimack closed out the ninth inning with
Chris Goode scoring two runs along with another home run for Dolbashian to close out the first game of the series.
