Women's Lacrosse Battles with Stetson

DeLand, Fla. -- The Merrimack College women's lacrosse suffered a loss to Stetson University on Saturday afternoon, 14-11.

The Basics
Records: Merrimack (1-7, 0-0 NEC) Stetson(3-3)

How It Happened
  • The Hatters opened up with the first goal of the afternoon to take an early lead. Natalie Calkins then broke through with a goal to tie the game at one. Stetson added two more goals before the end of the first quarter to go up by two. Taylor Jones scored early in the second to cut the lead to one. The Hatters then rattled off three straight goals to go up four. Olivia Valdes scored her first goal of the afternoon to cut the advantage to three. Stetson scored two more goals in the second quarter to head into halftime up by five.
  • The Hatters started the third quarter on a four-goal run, going up nine. Samantha Spieler stopped the run with her first goal of the game in the fourth quarter. Stetson then added two more goals to go up by 10. Spieler scored back-to-back goals for Merrimack, cutting the lead down to eight. Olivia White then followed up with two goals of her own to make it a six point game. Sophie Scearbo added two straight goals to cut the lead down to four. White scored again with 19 seconds to go in the game.
 
Notes and Numbers
  • Values led the team with two caused turnovers and four draw controls.
  • Scearbo finished the game with six shots on goal.
  • Hayley Kowalczyk made 16 saves in the win.
