Men’s Lacrosse Drops America East Matchup to Vermont

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team was beaten by the University of Vermont on Saturday afternoon. 13-8.

Rapid Recap

Jack Rooney got the scoring going for the Warriors, five minutes into the first quarter. The Catamounts added their first two with two minutes to go in the first, tying the game at one. Brian Russell found the back of the net at the end of the first quarter to send Merrimack into the second up by one. Vermont scored the first two goals of the second quarter to a take a one-point advantage. Kasey Mongillo scored a man-up goal to cut the lead down to one. The Catamounts then added four goals before halftime. Vermont went into the second half up by five. Like in the first, Rooney scored the first goal for Merrimack in the second half, cutting the lead down to four. The Catamounts then added four more goals in the third to go up seven. Needing a comeback in the fourth, KJ Delane scored a little over a minute into the final quarter. Trace Hogan then had a deflection from Rooney find the back of the net, to cut it back down to five. Rooney added his third goal of the afternoon to make it just a four-goal deficit. Vermont then added two goals of their own to go back up six. Delane scored his second goal of the afternoon with under a minute to play in the game.

Notes and Numbers

Sam Walsh and Nicholas Perez-Blanco tied for the most caused turnovers with three each.
Jack Rooney had a team-high five shots on goal.
