Women’s Lacrosse Explodes On Offense to Push Past Central Connecticut

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS-- The Merrimack College Women's lacrosse team beat Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon, 15-2.

 The Basics

Score: Central Connecticut 2, Merrimack 15

Records: Merrimack (3-11) Central Connecticut (3-8)

How It Happened:
In the first three minutes of the first quarter, Grace Boneu found the back of the net, giving the Warriors an early lead. Two minutes later Sophie Scearbo scored her first goal of the afternoon. About a minute later Mollie Flanagan scored to make it a three-goal advantage. Natalie Calkins scored two straight goals for Merrimack to put them up five. With four minutes to play in the first quarter Kelly Corrigan scored her first goal of the season. Olivia Valdes and Scearbo both scored before the end of the quarter to put Merrimack up eight. Olivia White got the scoring going again in the second quarter for the Warriors two minutes into the quarter. Valdes then scored two in a row to put Merrimack up 11. Scearbo found the back of the net for the third time of the half with just over a minute left before halftime. Samantha Spieler scored with two seconds left in the second quarter to make it 13 unanswered goals for the Warriors in the first half. The second half opened with the Blue Devil's first goal of the game. Valdes then answered toward the end of the third quarter. Central Connecticut would score early on in the fourth quarter. Taylor Jones found the back of the net for the 15th Merrimack goal of the afternoon.

Notes and Numbers

Valdes led the team in goals with a total of four. She also had the most draw controls won with five and ground balls with three.

Corrigan finished the game with three assists.

The Warriors hit the road to take on Wagner College on Saturday. Game time is set for noon.
