LOWELL, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team beat UMass Lowell on Friday by a score of 13-10.

In the first minute of play,
Kasey Mongillo found the back of the net to give the Warriors an early lead. The River Hawks answered back with a goal of their own to tie the game at one.
Trace Hogan scored for Merrimack with 11 and a half minutes to go in the first quarter. UMass Lowell added a goal to tie the game at two. The Warriors then scored five goals in a row. Two from
Jack Rooney, one from his brother
Tommy Rooney, and two from
Brian Russell. Merrimack was now up by five. The River Hawks scored with two and a half to play before halftime. Hogan and Russell both found the back of the net before halftime to put the Warriors up six. Out the halftime break UMass Lowell scored three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to three.
Tommy Rooney then rattled off two straight goals to push the lead back up to five. Russell and
Drew Hailey then added to the Merrimack total, putting the squad from North Andover up seven. The River Hawks scored the last four goals of the game, but it was not enough to beat the Warriors on Friday night.
Notes and Numbers
Karl Sutter led the team in ground balls with eight. He also went 17-25 on face offs.
Tommy Rooney had a team-high eight shots on goal.
Up Next
The Warriors jump back on the road next Sunday to take on the University at Albany. Game time is set for noon.
