Softball Splits NEC Doubleheader with Wagner

North Andover, MA- The Merrimack Softball team split two of their in conference games against the Wagner Seahawks on a sunny comfortable day at Martone-Mejail field on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
In game one, The Warriors took the early advantage as Sofia Palyan knocked Madison Cerpa in with an RBI single up the middle, Wagner would tie the score one inning later. The Seahawks would take the lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly, and added another run one batter later. Wagner scored two more runs in the fifth and scored two more runs in the game, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to finish game one.

In game two, the Warriors patience at the plate paid off as they had multiple walks in the first inning, and would score the first run on a fielders choice, and the second on a clever double steal success as Courtney Lanpher scored on a steal from third to home and Sydney Samuel took second. With this, the Warriors scored their first two runs of the game before recording a hit. In the second, Merrimack got their first hit in a big way as Courtney Lanpher doubled to left field scoring two. With Madie Fornwalt cruising on the mound, the Warriors held a five run lead into the final inning. The Seahawks would have one final push in the final inning, cutting the lead to two, but Katelyn Thompson would enter the game and get the final out to earn the split.
