LOWELL, MASS. – The Merrimack College baseball team beat UMass Lowell on Tuesday, 8-7.

● On the third pitch of the game,
Michael Golankiewicz hit a solo home run to give the Warriors an early one-run advantage. The River Hawks added a run of their own in the bottom half of the first to tie the game at one. A sac fly from
Stephen Santarpia in the second gave Merrimack back a one run lead. Later in the inning, Golankiewicz singled to right, scoring a runner from third.
Scott Elliott then singled to right, scoring a run, giving the Warriors a three-run lead. The the third
Christian Gemelli doubled to left, scoring another run, making it a 5-1 game. Later on in the third,
Jake Macchi ripped a ball up the middle, scoring another run for Merrimack. Santarpia launched another sac fly to right, scoring yet another run in the third . The Warriors found themselves up six. In the bottom half of the third UMass Lowell added three runs, cutting the lead in half. Santarpia reached on an error in the top of the fifth, making the lead four runs. The River Hawks scored two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth, but the comeback effort was not enough to beat Merrimack on Tuesday night.

Both Golankiewicz and Santarpia were the only two Warriors with multiple RBI's.
