Men's Hockey Snags Overtime Win over Holy Cross

Worcester, M.A.—The Merrimack Warriors Men's Hockey team made it three wins in a week as they outlasted the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders in overtime by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday night.
The Basics
Merrimack (9-9-1, 2-6-1): 4, College of the Holy Cross (9-8-2, 4-7-1): 3

Holy Cross struck first scoring less than three minutes into the game, but the Warriors would hold the deficit at one through the opening 20 minutes despite having to kill two penalties including a five-minute major.

Merrimack would find the equalizer seven and half minutes into the second period as Matt Copponi would take the pass from Michael Citara, and make a move around the Crusaders defender and finish with a goal. Merrimack would take the lead three minutes later when Ty Daneault threw the puck on goal and it was deflected in. Zach Borgiel would send the Warriors to the final regulation period with the lead after a post to post save to keep Merrimack ahead.

In the third period, Merrimack would grab an insurance goal as Ben Brar would fire in a rebound just seconds into a powerplay. Holy Cross however would score two goals in just over a minute to tie the game at three a piece, and the game would remain tied and head into overtime.

In the overtime, the Warriors would score quickly as Michael Citara would force the turnover, and Alex Jefferies would take the pass and score his tenth goal of the season to win the game for the Warriors.
