Football Gets Back in Win Column After Victory Over Morgan State

Baltimore, Md. – The Merrimack College football team beat Morgan State University on Saturday afternoon 32-24. Kicker Lliam Davis knocked down four field goals, include one from 51-yard which is his career-high.

How It Happened
  • Running back Jermaine Corbett returned the opening kickoff 99-yards to the end zone to give the Warriors an early seven-point lead. After back and forth play from both teams, Merrimack took back over on offense early on in the second quarter. Sophomore quarterback Ayden Pereira would have an eight-yard touchdown run to put the Warriors up by two scores. Later on, in the second, Davis would hit his first field goal from 51-yard to put Merrimack up by 17. The Bears added a field goal of their own with just under three minutes to play until halftime. With under a minute to go back the midway point of the game, Davis would split the uprights from 41-yards, sending the Warriors into the locker room with a 17-point advantage.
  • Morgan State opened the second half scoring with their first touchdown of the afternoon, cutting the lead down to 10. The Bears added another score right before the end of the third quarter to get the advantage down to just three. Early in the fourth quarter, Davis hit a 32-yard field goal to bring the lead up to six. The six and a half minutes left in the game, the Bears would find the endzone and take their first lead of the game by a point. The Warriors responded by marching down the field. Corbett capped off a six play, 59-yard drive with his second visit to the endzone. Merrimack found themselves up five. After the Warrior defense forced a turnover on downs, Davis would ice the game, hitting a 39-yard field goal with under a minute to play.
Notes & Numbers
  • Pereira was the leading rusher to Merrimack with a net total of 66 yards on the ground.
  • DJ Frazier led the team in tackles with nine in the game.
  • Nicholas Lenon led the team in sacks with 1.5 hits on the quarterback. He also led the team in tackles for loss with 2.5 in the win.
  • Kendal Sims had five tackles and a blocked punt for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back in action at home next Saturday against Stonehill College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
