Men's Hockey Can't Get By UMass-Lowell

North Andover, Mass.-- The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team dropped their only game of the weekend as they were defeated by the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks by a score of 6-3 on Saturday night at Lawler Arena.

Michael Emerson got the Warriors on the board, scoring the game's opening goal as he fired the shot off the post and in off the slick feed from Tyler Young.
 
UMass Lowell would score twice in four minutes to take the lead into the first intermission. 


The Riverhawks notched their third in a row at 8:07 of the second period to take a 3-1 lead. 
 
Trevor Griebel scored on a power play and got Merrimack back within one as his long shot from the point slithered through everyone to find the back of the net with eight minutes to go. Lowell would re-establish their two goal advantage just 76 seconds later. Merrimack however would strike with a counter punch with under a minute to go as Caelan Fitzpatrick powered home a shot from the circle on the powerplay to cut the lead to 4-3 heading into the final period.
 
The Riverhawks added their fifth of the game at 7:27 of the third and tallied an empty netter with four minutes to play.
 
Notes and Numbers:
 
·       Michael Emerson, Trevor Griebel and Caelan Fitzpatrick all scored their first goals of the season.
·       Seamus Powell, Tyler Young, Josef Mysak, Zach Bookman, Ty Daneault and Colby Enns all had an assist each.
·       Enns also leads the team in blocks with four. 

 
UP NEXT: The Warriors hit the road as they head to Orono to face the Maine Black Bears, with the first game set for Friday, November 1st at 7:30 PM.
