Football Topped By Sacred Heart in Yankee Conference Championship Game

North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack College football team was beat by Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon in the Yankee Conference Championship Game.

How It Happened
  • On the opening kickoff Jermaine Corbett took the ball 99-yards to the endzone to give Merrimack an early seven-point lead. The return was the senior running back's second return of the season. The Pioneers answered back one offensive play later. The Sacred Heart running back took it 73-yards to tie the game at seven. After stops from both defenses, Lliam Davis knocked down a 31-yard field goal to give Merrimack the lead with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter. A little over halfway through the second quarter, the Warriors broke through and found the end zone. Jermaine Corbett took it 18-yards for a score that put Merrimack up by 10. Sacred Heart added a touchdown with two and a half minutes to play in the first half to head into halftime down by three.
  • Davis got the scoring going for Merrimack in the second half with a 42-yard field goal. The Pioneers responded with a touchdown, which gave them their first lead of the afternoon. In the fourth quarter the Warrior quarterback threw and interception that was returned for a touchdown, putting Sacred Heart up eight. A field goal from the Pioneers with just under four minutes to play in the second half put the game out of reach for the Warriors.
