North Andover, MA.-- The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team finished 2024 with a bang, as they scored three times in the final period to knock off the Northeastern Huskies by a 4-1 scoreline
on Saturday night.
Merrimack (5-10-1, 3-5-1): 4, Northeastern (4-8-3,1-6-3): 1
After a fast paced, but low event first period, the Warriors cashed in on their first powerplay of the evening as
Ty Daneault slammed the shot home inside the left circle to put Merrimack ahead through the opening 20 minutes.
In the second, Merrimack came within inches of doubling their lead, but
Nick Pierre's shot would ring off the post. The Huskies would then tie the game after a broken stick left Merrimack in the lurch and the puck would find its way in off a deflection.
In the third, Merrimack scored quickly, as
Josef Mysak's blue line toss nicked off
Caden Cranston and
Ethan Bono, as the latter put the Warriors ahead. Merrimack added an insurance marker with seven minutes to go as
Harrison Roy scored his first for the team and
Seamus Powell would score the empty net goal from his own zone to close the win.
