PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team lost a road contest to the Providence College Friars Saturday afternoon.

Merrimack faced their second straight big-time opponent, this time traveling down into Rhode Island to square off with Big East foe, Providence. In the first quarter, the Warriors would be up early on thanks to
Paloma Garcia's strong play. Garcia was flying all over the court scoring the first six points for Merrimack.
Kelly Morrone's team would hang tough throughout the first going into the break down just one possession. In the second quarter it would be more of the same. The Warriors we're able to play strong defense and respond to a couple Friar runs. Merrimack would go down by as many as 12 but clawed their way back into the game to go into the half down by just four points, 29-25.
The third quarter saw a Providence team that used their size to handle the paint. The Warriors struggled to find offense, scoring nine points in the frame. Merrimack went into the fourth quarter down 52-34. In the fourth,
Kylee Fears put the blue and gold on the board with a fast break and-one and was able to provide a spark defensively. The defensive pressure increased down the stretch for Merrimack, continuing to force contested shots and turnovers. Merrimack and Providence would trade baskets with the Warriors ultimately coming up short in the 62-44 loss.
