CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's volleyball team had a tough outing as they were unable to win a set against Harvard.
The Basics
Score: Merrimack 0, Harvard 3
Records: Merrimack (2-6), Harvard (2-4)
How It Happened
Merrimack was looking to avenge a sweep that took place last Sunday against NJIT. The first set saw lots of action in a back-and-forth fight between the Warriors and Crimson.
Kai Vogel and
Isaiah Vogel played like a pair of twins on the same page, making plays all over the court. Merrimack looked to pull away after scoring 4 straight to go up 22-19, but Harvard would fight back to tie the set at 22-22. From there Harvard would win 3 of the next 4 points, concluding a 6-1 run and a first set victory 25-23.
The second set was another battle that saw neither team score more than three points in a row. Early on, the Warriors would see themselves down 8-4. Freshman
Reece Lindstrom would help Merrimack will themselves back into the match with an ace and 4 straight set assists to tie it up at 14-14. Then the Crimson would go on another 6-1 towards the end of the set which would prove to be too big of a hole to climb out of for the Warriors who fell 25-20 in set two.
Set number three was looking just as tight as the first two, with Harvard having the edge early 9-7. Fatigue on the Merrimack side began to set in as they would see the Crimson go on a big 10-3 run and never look back. The last set would ultimately be won by Harvard 25-16, concluding the match after three sets in favor of the Crimson.
