Softball Kicks Off 2024 Campaign Against Radford & Georgia Southern

Statesboro, GA.—Merrimack's 2024 Softball campaign began this afternoon as they took on both the Radford University Highlanders and tournament host Georgia Southern, falling 8-0 and 8-5 respectively.

GAME 1:  Radford scored first as they hit a three-run homerun in the first inning, before hitting another in the third inning and would add two more runs to stretch the lead to six. Radford added two more runs in the fourth and the game would come to a close in the fifth.

GAME 2: Georgia Southern scored the game's first two runs in the first two innings, but Merrimack would get on the board in the fourth inning as Sofia Palyan would knock in their first run of the game with a groundout. The Eagles would score two more times in the bottom half of the inning to make the lead three, but the Warriors refused to give in as they would take advantage of a wild pitch with Madison Cerpa at the plate, allowing Madi Gibeault to score. With Cerpa still at the plate, the Warriors would tie the game at four with a two-run homer to left center field. In the sixth, Madeline Arvai would put Merrimack in front with her first ever collegiate hit, scoring Samantha Sosnovich.

The Eagles would score three times in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.
