How It Happened
The Warriors were coming off of a five set close call victory against AIC on the road. They looked to continue their winning ways with another non conference match. Dominican had other plans and looked to play spoiler as they went out and snatched the first set from the Warriors. Dominican was up as much as four points and down as much as three but snuck out a 25-23 set one win.
MC was looking for redemption in the second set. It did not come easy for Merrimack as the match stayed close throughout the second. The Warriors had a six to nothing run early on in the set. Merrimack would maintain their lead from that point until late in the set when the Chargers led 23-22. However, it would be MC pulling out the second set win to knot the match at one after the 26-24 win.
Matthew Motes closed out the set with back to back monstrous kills.
The third set was all Warriors early, middle and end. They pounced on the Chargers taking an 8-1 lead. They would add a five point burst later in the set to increase their lead and would eventually coast to a 25-19 third set victory, putting a 2-1 stranglehold on the match.
The Warriors wanted to close out the match and secure a 2-0 start to the week. It was Dominican taking charge early on going up 7-5 and controlling the pace. The match looked like it may be destined for a fifth and final set to determine it. It would then be a six to zero run for Merrimack to go up 11-7. A few spurts from Ray Lewis' squad and they were able to secure the four set win taking the last by a score of 25-22 capped off by a
Logan Whitaker kill to finalize his monster day.
