Providence, R.I.—Merrimack Softball notched a split against the Brown University Bears falling 3-2 in game one, before scoring eight times en-route to an 8-6 win in game two.
Game 1: In game one, Merrimack and Brown found themselves in a stalemate with the game being scoreless until the fifth when the Bears pushed across the games first run, they would add a second in the sixth. Merrimack would battle back in with two runs in the seventh as
Madeline Arvai slapped a single to left field scoring
Courtney Lanpher and
Sydney Samuel would double home
Thiana Brito to square the score at two, however Brown would score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Notes and Numbers:
Game 2: The Warriors picked up right where they left off in the last game, scoring three runs in the second inning as
Sam Russalesi knocked home
Madeline Arvai on a bases loaded infield hit.
Ellen Hubbard kept it rolling with a two RBI single to left field scoring
Thiana Brito and
Sydney Samuel.
Merrimack made it four unanswered runs in the third as
Madison Cerpa scored on a double steal. Brown would cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning,
Madison Cerpa would score the Warriors fifth run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, but the Bears would tie the score in the fifth.
The Warriors would retake the lead for good in the sixth as
Courtney Lanpher hit a triple down the right field line, Lanpher would score herself on a groundout. Brown would score one more run in the sixth before
Caity Lemay's long double would score
Sydney Samuel in the eighth and
Sofia Palyan would pick up the win with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
