Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day; Falls In Battle For First Against UAlbany

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team was chopped down against UAlbany on senior day

The Basics
Score: Merrimack 8, UAlbany 14
Records: Merrimack (5-8, 3-3 AE) | UAlbany (6-7, 5-1 AE)

Rapid Recap
Merrimack celebrated nine members of their 2024 class to kick off senior day and hoped the celebration would carry over into the game. Early on it seemed like it did as the Warriors, while giving up the first goal of the game we're able to respond with the next two tallies of the game. Brian Russell and then Jack Kolbe we're able to score as MC left the first quarter up 2-1 in a defensive battle. Merrimack was feeling good until the Great Danes blitzed the Warriors scoring five unanswered to put them ahead 6-2. Merrimack was able to strike at the last possible second heading into halftime when Trace Hogan tickled the twine off the Kasey Mongillo feed.

Merrimack trailed by just three goals coming into the third quarter and wanted to make some Duane Stadium magic and come back on the first place Danes. Any momentum that the Warriors might have gained after the last second goal in the first half was squashed rather quickly. Just ten seconds into the third UAlbany would score the first of a flurry of third quarter scores. The Danes made it 10-3 before KJ Delane put an end to the run. The Warriors come out of the third down 12-6 with some ground to make up. In the fourth UAlbany scored first and it wouldn't be until the 5:25 mark that Jack Rooney was able to score one for Merrimack. MC would fall to its America East foe in a battle for first place, 14-8.

Notes and Numbers
  • KJ Delane notched the lone multi goal game with two tallies
  • Jack Rooney led the way with 3 assists
  • Joe Conley continues to be lethal on the defensive end with 3 caused turnovers
