Rapid Recap
Merrimack was swept by this Blue Devils team last year and wanted to avenge those three losses. Freshman phenom, Andrew Heffernan, would get the start. In the first it was a rocky start as he gave up a two run homer. CCSU pounced out to a 2-0 lead. Frankie Ferrentino was able to strike back with a towering solo home run to left field to slice the deficit in half. CCSU quickly answered that with a score of their own to make it a 3-1 Blue Devil advantage in the second. Cavan Brady would knock in a run in the fourth to make it a 3-2 game. In the top of the fifth it would be Braydon Dolbashian peeling the skin off the baseball with a blast to center field for his second homerun in as many games. This homer drove in three runs to give Merrimack a commanding 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Andrew Heffernan would settle in after a rocky start and pitch a perfect sheet through the next three innings of play bringing the Warriors into the 8th inning still holding that three run lead. Dawson Logie would replace Heffernan in the 8th, pitching a 1-2-3 8th. In the top half of the ninth Christian Gemelli put the icing on the cake with a solo shot to make it 7-3. The Warriors would go on to win the first game of the three game set 7-4.
