Amherst, MA.— Merrimack Softball closed out their non-conference regular season schedule in style with a 7-2 extra inning victory over the UMass Minutewomen on Wednesday afternoon.
After two one out singles, the Warriors would get on the board first when
Madison Cerpa would reach on a throwing error that would score
Courtney Lanpher and
Ellen Hubbard.
UMass would cut into the lead in the second on an RBI single, and they would tie the game up at two in the sixth inning.
With the Minutewomen threatening to end the game in the seventh,
Ellen Hubbard made a fantastic diving catch to make the third out and send the game into extra innings.
With the Warriors given another chance to hit in extra innings, they would take full advantage as
Samantha Sosnovich came through as a pinch hitter, scoring
Sam Russalesi with an RBI single.
Courtney Lanpher would add an insurance run with a sac fly and an RBI, scoring
Sofia Palyan.
Ellen Hubbard would keep it rolling after her catch with an RBI single, and the crooked number would be achieve one batter later as
Madison Cerpa hit a two rbi single to make the score 7-2.
With the runs in place,
Madie Fornwalt retired the side in order to pick up her tenth win of the season.
