North Andover, MA.- The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team fell in the shootout to the College of Holy Cross Crusaders after tying
2-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lawler Arena.
Merrimack (6-15-3, 3-11-3): 2 (1), Holy Cross (7-13-3, 3-11-3): 2 (2)
Merrimack got off on the right foot as
Michaela Littlewood finished from just outside the blue paint only two minutes into the game. The Crusaders, however, took the lead with two powerplay goals to hold the lead after the opening 20 minutes.
In the second, Merrimack cashed in on a powerplay as
Rachel Bjorgan, who played in her 150th NCAA game yesterday and was celebrating her birthday today, scored on a toss from the wall to tie the game at two, which would hold into the third.
In the third, Merrimack killed off a late penalty to send the game into overtime and despite both teams coming close to capture the win neither team could, sending the game to the shootout.
In the shootout,
Maria Lindberg led off with a goal for Merrimack but Holy Cross would tie the score on their third attempt and win it on their seventh.
