NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team fell to the MAAC's top team, Fairfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors welcomed in the conference's top team in Fairfield who held an 8-0 record in MAAC play entering the day. The task was tall but early on Merrimack was right in it with the defending MAAC champs. Defense led to offense for the Warriors as they held the most potent offense in the conference to just 17 first quarter points and trailed by only three. In the second, Merrimack continued to play very well defensively, but the offense was hard to come by. The Warriors scored just eight second quarter points but were still within striking distance after a defensive masterclass of a second quarter. At the half it was Fairfield leading 32-22.
The third quarter, which Fairfield notoriously dominates, was no different from what had been all season. They pounced on Merrimack scoring 28 points in the frame. The Warriors would not let that define them and this game, as they scratched and clawed back. Merrimack outscored the Stags in the fourth, 20-14 and forcing 17 total turnovers in the game. However, it was not enough as they ended up losing 74-59.
Notes and Numbers
- Paloma Garcia was the top Warrior scorer, leading the way with 15 points and adding four steals
- Madison Roman canned two three pointers on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds
- Thalia Shepard added 11 points in the loss
