BOSTON, MA- The Merrimack women's hockey team tied the game in the third period, but fell short to the Northeastern University Huskies by a score of 3-1 at Matthews Arena on Friday night.

Merrimack: 1 (6-13-1, 3-9-1), Northeastern: 3 (11-6-1, 9-4-1)
How it Happened
The first period saw a lot of firepower from both sides. Neither side prevailed, but
Calli Hogarth was the difference maker, making 12 saves for the Warriors in the first twenty minutes.
In the second period, the Huskies broke the scoreless tie with a goal jammed right in front of the net.
The third period saw the most action, as Captain
Sophie McKinley got the Warriors on the board a minute and 43 seconds into the frame. However,
Hayley Chang drew the game's only penalty and the Huskies were able to take advantage and score on the power play. The Warriors battled in the late period and made a valiant effort to try to tie the game, slinging an onslaught of shots towards the opposing goal. However, Northeastern was able to solidify their victory by scoring an empty net goal with about 30 seconds to go in the game.

The Warriors return home tomorrow, January 4th as they welcome the Providence College Friars to Lawler Rink at 6:00PM. The team will be having their annual Skating Strides game to raise money for breast cancer awareness in partnership with the Ellie Fund.
