NORTH ANDOVER, MA — The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team opened their home slate of games by pulling away from UMass Lowell and capturing a 4-1 win on Friday night at Lawler Arena.
Merrimack (1-1-0, 1-1-0): 4, UMass Lowell (1-1-0, 1-1-0 HEA): 1
A goalless first period saw Max Lundgren make 13 saves in the opening 20 minutes.
UMass Lowell got on the board in the first five minutes of the second period and they kept that lead until the final minute. Justin Gill, playing in his first game at Merrimack, rushed the net on a powerplay and was rewarded for his efforts as he tipped the point shot from Hunter Mayo in to tie the game with 60 seconds remaining in the frame.
In the third, Merrimack scored early as Parker Lalonde took the snapped pass from Ethan Beyer and wired home the shot to take the lead. Three minutes later, Merrimack extended that lead as Trevor Hoskin finished from in close to give the Warriors an insurance marker.
Mark Hillier hit the empty net from just outside their defending crease to make it four goals for the Warriors.
Notes and Numbers:
Parker Lalonde and Justin Gill had a goal and an assist each.
Trevor Hoskin and Mark Hillier had the other goals for Merrimack.
Filip Nordberg, Ethan Beyer, Hunter Mayo and Matthew Campbell each had assists.
Max Lundgren made 33 saves and added an assist of his own.
UP NEXT: The Warriors play again at home next Saturday October 18th, when they host the University of New Hampshire Wildcats at 6 PM.
