Schenectady, NY.— The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team kept it close but were unable to complete the late comeback against the Union College Garnet Knights as they fell by a score of 4-2 on Friday night.
Merrimack (1-2-0): 2, Union: 4 (3-0-0)
Union jumped out to an early lead scoring in the opening five minutes but the Warriors would get back on level terms going low to high as Maddie Crowley-Cahill has tipped home by Avery Anderson just past the halfway point of the first. Union took the lead back less than a minute later and they'd make the score 3-1 right before the end of the period.
In the second, neither side was able to score despite multiple powerplays for both teams. Lauren Lyons did turn away 11 shots in the frame.
In the third the Warriors got a lifeline as they finally cashed in on the powerplay - Hailey Eikos kept the puck in at the line and fired it top shelf through traffic with seven minutes left, but Union put the game away with an empty netter in the final minute.
