Women's Basketball Shoots Past Northeastern

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Molly Manion and Mia Fiore each scored a career-high 14 points as the Merrimack women's basketball team defeated Northeastern 83-65 on Saturday in Hammel Gym.

Manion made 6-of-10 field goals, including 2-of-4 three-pointers, while Fiore also made six field goals to go with eight rebounds and five assists. Joi Williams also had a career high with 13 points, of 4-of-6 shooting and made 2-of-3 from behind the arc

"It was just an electric atmosphere," Merrimack head coach Kelly Morrone said. "Once (we) got going, that train was not stopping."

Madison Roman and Lydia Melashenko each scored 12 points, with Melaschenko connecting on 3-of-5 three-pointers.

"When you are getting stops, once you see a couple easy bunnies go through, it's really easy to stay hot," Manion said.

The Warriors outscored Northeastern 32-12 in the fourth quarter, shooting 70 percent from the field and 50 percent (4-8) from 3.

This was the last women's basketball game scheduled in Hammel Gymnasium, and alumni were on hand to celebrate. Merrimack (2-2) moves over to Lawler Arena for a 4 p.m. tipoff against Bryant as the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team.
