Men’s Hockey Fights Hard Against Notre Dame

NORTH ANDOVER, MA.-- The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team played a tough back and forth contest with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in front of a sold-out Lawler Arena crowd on Wednesday afternoon.

Merrimack went behind first in the opening period before Trevor Hoskin's stretch pass picked out Nick Pierre who muscled past his defender and outskated everyone else to pot the breakaway goal and equalizer, which also was his third goal in two games and his sixth point in four games.

Merrimack struck twice for the only goals of the second period as the Warriors powerplay scored their seventh special teams goal in three games. Caelan Fitzpatrick scored after winning the faceoff. Nolan Flamand doubled the advantage four minutes later, putting home his own rebound. The Warriors held a 3-1 lead going into the second intermission.

In the third period, Notre Dame would score three straight goals to put the Fighting Irish up 4-3. Justin Gill tied things back up only 34 seconds later after a slick pass from the side of the net from Caden Cranston. Notre Dame however took the lead for good less than a minute later and despite a powerplay in the final three minutes, the Fighting Irish would hang on to get the win 5-4.

The Warriors have a quick turnaround after the Thanksgiving Holiday as they face the Dartmouth Big Green on Saturday November 29th in Hanover, NH at 4:00 p.m.
