North Andover, MA.- The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team scored three goals early and cruised to a 5-3 victory over the Boston College Eagles
on Saturday night at Lawler Arena.
Merrimack (7-18-3, 3-14-3): 5, Boston College (17-10-1, 13-7-1: 3
The Warriors blitzed the Eagles early as
Sage Babey scored the opening goal three minutes into the game, and
Maria Lindberg would double it three minutes later. Merrimack only needed 22 seconds to make the lead three as
Natalie Nemes powered home a slap shot which would cause the Eagles to make a goaltending change. Boston College scored just past the halfway point but that would be the fourth and final goal of the period.
In the second, Boston College cut the advantage to one, but Merrimack counter punched again as
Madison Cardaci's shot fell to
Chloe Goofers on the open side of the net to re-establish the two goal lead with only a period to go.
In the third, Boston College got a lifeline as they once again cut the lead back to one, but with the one goal lead intact, Merrimack put pressure on the Eagle's puck carriers, not allowing them possession in their defensive zone to get the extra skater on and they were rewarded for this as
Michaela Littlewood forced the turnover and snuck it through for the Warriors' fifth of the game and the capper on the contest.
