Men's Basketball Downed By Manhattan Friday

Riverdale, N.Y. – Merrimack College men's basketball dropped a matchup with Manhattan University on Friday night 79-75. Adam "Budd" Clark scored 22 points, he also had five assists. Matt Becht added 15 points in the loss. Bryan Etumnu finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Rapid Recap
  • The Jaspers jumped out to an early four-point lead. Clark got the scoring going with a layup to bring the Warriors within two. Manhattan scored again to bring the lead back to four. The Jaspers found themselves up six with 15 and a half minutes to go in the first half. Becht found the bottom of the net with a three to make it a three-point game. Devon Savage added a layup to make it a one-point game. Merrimack then took the lead after a Sean Trumper layup and Becht three. With 13 minutes left, the Warriors were up two. Becht added his third three of the half, making the advantage five. Both teams battled back and forth. Savage hit a three to make the lead eight. With seven minutes to go in the first, Tye Dorset went on a five-point run to make the lead 11. The Jaspers battled back to get the lead down to six with five minutes left to play. After five points from Manhattan, Becht hit a three to make the lead nine. Merrimack would head into halftime up by nine.
  • On their first offensive possession of the half the Jaspers scored, cutting the lead down to seven. The lead then teetered between nine and five for a number of minutes. With 10 minutes to play Manhattan was down five. Malik Edmead knocked down a mid-range jumper to get the lead back to seven. Two minutes later, Becht hit a three to push the lead up to 10. After a Jasper bucket, Tumper hit a three making the advantage 11. Manhattan then jumped on a 11-point run to tie the game at 67 with four minutes to go in the game. The Jasper were then up six with just over a minute to play. The Warriors attempted to make a comeback, cutting the advantage down to three, but could not compete the effort, losing by four.

  • Trumper finished the game with 11 points and four rebounds.
  • The Warriors forced 16 turnovers and scored 13 points off the giveaways.

Merrimack heads back home to take on Marist University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
