ROCK HILL, SC – The Merrimack College baseball team was swept in their season opening series against Winthrop.

How it Happened
- Andrew Heffernan started on the mound for the Warriors in game one. He went 3.2 innings pitched giving up just three runs. Merrimack did not score until the seventh inning when Logan Castellano blasted a grand slam to make it 6-4. However, in the bottom half of the seventh and eighth Winthrop added 10 runs to close it out 16-4.
- James Nichols was on the mound to start for Merrimack in his first ever outing as a member of the Warriors. In his debut he gave up three earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched striking out a pair. He was unable to get any help from the Warriors' bats as Merrimack failed to score in the game having just two hits.
- The series finale was by far the closest game of the weekend. Merrimack rolled out six different arms including the starter, Campbell Cassidy. Winthrop scored the first five runs of the game. It was a Frankie Ferrentino solo shot to put the Warriors on the board in the third inning and a Chris Goode RBI single in the fourth to pull closer. The two teams traded runs in the sixth and seventh before Winthrop crossed the plate two more times to complete a sweep of the Warriors.
