Rapid Recap
From the very start of this game, it was special. Honoring the seniors pregame and the annual Play4Kay game gave it that much more meaning for the Warriors. They opened up shooting well from the field but no one was prepared or envisioned what was about to happen in the second quarter. After a 17-10 first frame, Merrimack outscored Iona 26 to 5 in the second quarter. They shot an immaculate 83.3% from the three-point line hitting eight total in the first half with 19 points being dropped in by
Rose Caso. Merrimack led 43-15 after the first 20 minutes.
The second half was a mirror image. The Warriors couldn't miss, the Gaels could not hit and a 17-5 run put the game completely out of reach. Merrimack held a large lead but it did not stop there as they extended that advantage to as big as 49 points in the contest. The Warriors controlled the game from start to finish on both ends limiting Iona to just 36 points in the conference matchup, the lowest by an opponent this season. Merrimack would go on to top the 80-point threshold for just the second time this season in the 81-36 thrashing of the Gaels.
Notes and Numbers
