Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against Stonehill Saturday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team fell to the Stonehill College Skyhawks by a score of 11-13 on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors opened the scoring a minute into play with Kaitlin Roche netting one between the pipes. Stonehill responded with two back-to-back goals to take the early lead. Despite being a woman-down, Hailey Schnider netted one off a clean pass from Ashlyn Campbell. The Warriors would score twice more before the end of the first. Kaitlin Roche scored her second of the night and with just under a minute left, Allison Lamphere recovered a missed shot and slotted it through the cage to put the Warriors up 4-3. The Skyhawks began to pick up steam in the second quarter of play scoring back-to-back goals to retake the lead. Hannah Lawrence forced a Skyhawks turnover which set up Allison Lamphere's second goal of the night. Stonehill would score three more goals to go up 3. Lindsay Atkinson netted one to break the score drought. Kaitlin Roche caused a Skyhawks turnover and capitalized on it with a goal for the Warriors.
It would be Stonehill who opened scoring in the third quarter, notching back-to-back points to balloon their lead. Lindsay Atkinson would then convert on a free position attempt to cut the deficit to 2. It remained a defensive battle on both ends as no other scoring took place until  the twelve minute mark where Stonehill scored three times to go up five. The Warriors reset in the fourth quarter, capitalizing off a yellow card on Stonehill. Roche scored a woman-up goal, her fourth of the afternoon. Hailey Schnider then converted on a free position attempt to put the Warriors in double digits. Roche capped off a successful Warrior run, netting one in the frame from Sophia Ingenito to make it 13-11.  The Warriors were looking for two more to settle the deficit, however, couldn't get past the Skyhawk's defense.
