LOWELL, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team was bested by their cross-river rivals, UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors opened up the scoring against their cross-river rival in UMass Lowell as
Brady Covey netted one just a minute and a half into it. The Riverhawks scored four straight before freshman
Brendan Harty halted the Lowell scoring run. Two more goals from UMass Lowell before the end of the first period made it 6-2 UML. The first goal of the second quarter would not come until nearly halfway through when UMass Lowell extended their lead.
Casey Herod would respond with a goal for Merrimack with just over four minutes to go to make it a 7-3 game. There would be no more scoring in the first half as the teams went into the break with the score stuck at 7-3 UML.
The scoring came alive in the second half with the Riverhawks notching a pair of goals before a
Jack Parker tally.
Brady Covey netted back to back goals following a Lowell score to cut the deficit to four and secure a hat trick. The first career goal from
Josh Younger made it three straight for Merrimack and all of the sudden it was a 10-7 game. The final goal of the third came from the Riverhawks to make it 11-7 heading into the final frame. UMass Lowell scored three straight times to open up the fourth and increase their lead to seven. A second goal from
Josh Younger stopped the Riverhawks run. The fourth goal of the day from
Brady Covey came off of another assist from
Casey Herod that drew the Warriors closer at 14-9. UMass Lowell would milk away time down the stretch as Merrimack fell to their close rivals, 14-9.
