North Andover, MA- The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team fought hard all night but were defeated 3-2 in double overtime to the Northeastern Huskies in the Hockey East Opening Round to finish their 2024-25 season
on Wednesday night.

A scoreless first period saw the Warriors outshoot the Huskies 9-6 through the opening 20.
Northeastern got on the board first with the game's ice breaker
at 6:20 of the second, but the Warriors got the game back level as
Seamus Powell took the faceoff win, had his original shot blocked and stayed with the play, firing in his own rebound to tie the game at one. Merrimack took the lead late as
Caelan Fitzpatrick would score on the backhand following a
Josef Mysak point shot.
Northeastern tied the game just before the halfway mark but neither goaltender would be beat again in regulation as the game headed into overtime.
In the first overtime, the Warriors peppered the Huskies with 14 shots and
Max Lundgren made eight saves of his own but neither team could break the deadlock, requiring another Zamboni trip and another overtime.
In the second overtime, Northeastern would score the game winning goal
at 4:39 of the fifth period.
