How it Happened
  • The first of four games against the Panthers of FIU down in Miami was the lowest scoring game of the series. FIU scored the first four runs of the game before Merrimack was able to break through to score off of an infield single from Jack Andrews. A Jayden Hamilton double scored Andrews and the Warriors added another run in the seventh to cut it to a one run game. They we're unable to score again losing 4-3 in game one.
  • Game two was the most lopsided game of the set. Merrimack did score the first run of the game in the third inning. However, not long after that the Panthers responded with three runs in the fourth. Christian Scanlon homered in the fifth to bring it to 3-2 FIU. Two more runs crossed home in the sixth for the Panthers and they continued to add throughout the remainder of the game including four more runs in the eighth. The game finished 14-4 in favor of FIU.
  • The second game of the doubleheader on Saturday was as close as could be. FIU was up 3-0 to start after three innings but a Frankie Ferrentino two run shot brought the Warriors into it in inning number four. The teams traded pairs of runs in the fifth and sixth with FIU grabbing an insurance score in the seventh. When all looked to be down and out for the Warriors, a Christian Scanlon double scored two runs to tie it in the ninth inning. However, Merrimack could not finish the job as the Panthers walked it off in extras to win 7-6.
  • An offensive onslaught was on the menu for the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday. Merrimack jumped on the Panthers early on scoring three runs right out of the gate coming from Frankie Ferrentino and Cavan Brady doubles as well as a Jack Andrews single. FIU went on to score the next eight runs through the fourth inning before the Warriors finally broke through with a pair of runs in the fifth. A five run sixth inning from the Panthers put the game seemingly out of reach at 14-6. Merrimack's bats did not stop firing with three runs in the seventh to make it 14-10. FIU quickly put it back to a large lead with four runs to close out the game and complete a sweep of Merrimack at 18-10.
