Men's Basketball Defeats Quinnipiac in Home Finale

North Andover, Mass. – Merrimack College men's basketball team beat Quinnipiac in its final home game of the season, 73-63. Adam "Budd" Clark finished the game with 20 points to lead the way for the Warriors offensively. Sean Trumper added 14 points, including going seven of eight from the free throw line. Devon Savage and Matt Becht scored 12 and 11 points each in the victory.

  • Both teams started the game off trading buckets. Clark then added four straight points to put the Warriors up two possessions. After back and forth from both teams, the game was tied at eight with 14 minutes to play. The squads continued to trade scores. With 10 minutes to go before halftime, Trumper and Malik Edmead combined for a four-point run to put Merrimack up three. The Bobcats battled back and went on a four-point run of their own to go back up by one. With four minutes to go until halftime Merrimack found themselves down four. The Warriors then went on a six-point run to take the lead by two. Quinnipiac scored two points to tie the game at 27 with a minute to play. Becht nailed a three with under a minute left in the half to send the Warriors into halftime up by three.
  • Clark opened the second half with a drive to the lane for two. Quinnipiac followed up with a lay in of their own to get the lead back down to three. The Warriors then added five points to take their biggest lead of the afternoon at eight. The Bobcats battled back to cut the lead down to three. Clark scored three straight points to put Merrimack back up by six. With 13 minutes left in the game, Quinnipiac cut the Warriors advantage to just one. Tye Dorset found the bottom of the net with a jumper to get the lead back up to three. The Bobcats scored three consecutive points to tie the game at 46 with 11 minutes to play. Becht and Clark answered with a five-point run to put the Warriors up two possessions. Quinnipiac added a three to get it to a two-point contest. Savage hit a three to put Merrimack back up by five. With seven and a half minutes to go in the game the Bobcats found themselves down by four. The Warriors then went on a 10-point run that ran the span of the better part of five minutes to take a commanding 14-point advantage. Trumper had five of the 14 points in the run. Quinnipiac would try and mount a comeback, but Merrimack proved to be too much on Sunday afternoon, winning the game by 10.

  • Clark finished the game with a career-high eight steals.
  • The Warriors forced a season-high 21 turnovers and scored 21 points off the giveaways.
